A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on November 19th, 2021.
The investigation heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my flat."
In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.
An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said property was not stolen in the first place".
Media reports about the alleged taken remains generated social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".
The "social media content were really upsetting", she said.
She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.
"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
The teenager was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.
Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his death.
His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.
In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.
The proceedings heard that one young adult urged Kai to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".
She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".
He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".
The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.
On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.
After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.
The proceedings learned his family said they did not got that communication.
Lead investigator informed the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.
Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.
"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of social media.
"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his interview he was freed whilst investigations continued."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to discern his intent."
